Similar to every other job field, education and teaching continues to evolve and grow. Learning was once very much teacher centered. The teacher would stand and talk the whole time, whereas today it is gearing towards student centered classrooms. Teachers are gatekeepers, as we provide a structure and facilitate what needs to be learned based on the curriculum. However, students have a voice in their learning. They should be given real application, collaboration opportunities, different types of assessment, etc. We as the gatekeepers make sure that they still learn everything needed within the curriculum.

Technology also plays an important role for how we as educators, shape and form our class. The use of tech based tools provide opportunities for students to all learn in new and exciting ways. As the gatekeepers, we can implement a flipped classroom method so students have more one on one time in class. We can provide tools for students to collaborate both in and outside of the class. We have many opportunities that allow students to learn in new and engaging ways.
